Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0has sparked renewed controversy over his treatment of female reporters by repeatedly calling one \u2018stupid\u2019 at a press conference.<\/p>\n

The 79-year-old lashed out when asked to explain previous comments saying his predecessor\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>\u00a0was responsible for the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, DC on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The suspected killer, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who worked in a special CIA-backed military unit in\u00a0Afghanistan<\/a>\u00a0before moving to the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0in 2021 when American forces pulled out of the country.<\/p>\n

Trump repeatedly claimed there was \u2018no vetting\u2019 for Afghans who came to the US at the time, saying: \u2018They came in unvetted, and we have a lot of others in this country we\u2019re gonna get them out, but they go cuckoo.\u2019<\/p>\n

This contradicts a statement from his own Department of Justice earlier this year saying there was \u2018thorough vetting\u2019 of all Afghan evacuees by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, it emerged Lakanwal applied for asylum in 2024 and it was granted by the Trump administration in April this year.<\/p>\n

The reporter raised the Department of Justice\u2019s statement, asking the president: \u2018So why do you blame the Biden administration?\u2019<\/p>\n

Trump replied: \u2018Because they let them in. Are you stupid?\u00a0Are you a stupid person?<\/p>\n

\u2018Because they came into on a plane along with thousands of other people that shouldn\u2019t be here, and you\u2019re just asking questions because you\u2019re a stupid person.\u2019<\/p>\n

An official White House X account posted a partial video of the exchange with three \u2018fire\u2019 emojis.<\/p>\n

The part of the reporter\u2019s question raising the DoJ statement which contradicted Trump was cut from the clip.<\/p>\n

White House<\/a>\u00a0spokeswoman Abigail later defended the comment.<\/p>\n

\u2018President Trump has never been politically correct, never holds back, and in large part, the American people re-elected him for his transparency\u2019 she said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u2018This has nothing to do with gender \u2013 it has everything to do with the fact that the President\u2019s and the public\u2019s trust in the media is at all time lows.\u2019<\/p>\n

Later in the conference, Trump was asked to comment on the reports that the suspect was granted asylum under his administration.<\/p>\n

He replied: \u2018When it comes to asylum, when they\u2019re flown in it\u2019s very hard to get them out, no matter how you want to do it\u2019s very hard to get them out, but we\u2019re going to be getting them all out.\u2019<\/p>\n

Trump previously drew criticism for calling another female reporter \u2018piggy\u2019 earlier this month.<\/p>\n

He lashed out at Bloomberg\u2019s Catherine Lucy after she asked him about the Epstein files, saying \u2018quiet, quiet, piggy\u2019 while waving his finger at her.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week he responded to an article by The\u00a0New York<\/a>\u00a0Times\u2019 White House correspondent Katie Rogers, in which she reported he has significantly reduced his workload due to age and fatigue, by calling her \u2018ugly, both inside and out\u2019 in a\u00a0social media<\/a>\u00a0post.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s attack saw shots fired at a group of National Guard members near a metro station.<\/p>\n

Of the two soldiers hit, one, 20-year-old Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, has since died of her wounds.<\/p>\n

Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains in hospital where he is \u2018fighting for his life\u2019.<\/p>\n

Quickly after Sarah\u2019s death, Trump posted a flurry of incoherent messages on his Truth Social account containing a vow to \u2018permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover\u2019.<\/p>\n

He also said his\u00a0administration would \u2018end all federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens\u2019 and remove \u2018anyone who is not a net asset to the United States\u2019.<\/p>\n
