I scoffed at\u00a0Angry Ginge<\/a>\u00a0entering\u00a0I\u2019m A Celebrity<\/a>\u00a0and then rolled my eyes when he became the bookies\u2019 runaway favourite to be crowned King of the Jungle.<\/p>\n

Not that he\u2019s unworthy of being there: the stats speak for themselves \u2013 over 2.2 million followers on TikTok, 1.7 million on Instagram and 900,000 YouTube subscribers.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re just not stats that honestly meant anything to me compared with\u00a0Martin Kemp<\/a>\u2019s collection of number-one singles,\u00a0Kelly Brook<\/a>\u00a0presenting one of my favourite childhood TV shows The Big Breakfast, or\u00a0Ruby Wax<\/a>\u00a0simply being one of the most brilliant and iconic comedians and interviewers I grew up with.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m still of a generation that separates \u2018celebrity\u2019 from \u2018streamer\u2019, and I\u2019m fully aware that makes me a dinosaur.<\/p>\n

But it didn\u2019t take long for\u00a0Ginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle<\/a>, to win me over completely. My votes became his, even if the \u2018Angry Ginge and\u00a0Aitch<\/a>\u2019 show wore thin very quickly.<\/p>\n

But when the content creator was away from his fellow laddy Mancunian, he\u2019s been softer, emotionally intelligent, and has struck up some of my all-time favourite friendships in I\u2019m A Celebrity, most notably with his unlikely new ally, Ruby.<\/p>\n

With very little knowledge of or interest in the streaming world, watching Angry Ginge feels\u00a0reminiscent of Chantelle Houghton<\/a>\u00a0imitating a famous person on\u00a0Celebrity Big Brother<\/a>\u00a0in 2006 \u2013 which I mean as a great compliment.<\/p>\n

He has no air of stardom at all, and outside of his fanbase, that\u2019s absolutely worked in his favour this series.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d hazard a guess that the majority of I\u2019m A Celebrity viewers had no idea who \u2013 or what \u2013 an\u00a0Angry Ginge was until<\/a>\u00a0almost three weeks ago, and now a huge chunk of that majority adore him like I do.<\/p>\n

With bookmakers, he\u2019s currently neck-and-neck for\u00a0victory alongside rapper Aitch<\/a>, which is unsurprising given how much airtime they\u2019ve both had.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve also painted an extremely healthy picture of masculinity throughout.<\/p>\n

It has been wildly overlooked, however, that Aitch and Ginge are both sharing what is likely an identical fanbase which inevitably needs to split its votes between the two front-runners. Could that lead to an unexpected upset? Only time will tell.<\/p>\n

Should either of them\u00a0take Danny Jones\u2019s crown<\/a>, I wouldn\u2019t be mad about it \u2013 but, for me, they\u2019ve thrown away their dignity in the final week by celebrating \u2018getting away with\u2019 stealing sweets from their camp mates, and someone else has suddenly emerged as my winner \u2013\u00a0Shona McGarty.<\/p>\n

The former EastEnders star hasn\u2019t had the airtime she\u2019s deserved until this final stretch to the finish line, where she\u2019s been understated but quietly magnificent.<\/p>\n

Until this week, her highlight was undoubtedly\u00a0talking about her ex-fiance<\/a>\u00a0with grace after they split just weeks before she entered the jungle.<\/p>\n

When Kelly Brook giggled away at her track record of failed engagements, Shona quietly took herself away and leant on the purest shoulder to walk planet Earth, Tom Read Wilson.<\/p>\n

It was such a tender and vulnerable moment that was so clearly devoid of attention-seeking, which on a celebrity reality TV series is practically unheard of.<\/p>\n

She finally did her first solo\u00a0Bushtucker Trial<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday night\u2019s episode, dressed as a pirate to walk a wobbly plank 100 feet in the air and collect stars dangling in hard-to-reach places.<\/p>\n

The Whitney Dean actor zipped through the challenge with carefree abandon, like a child at soft play, and despite watching hundreds of Bushtucker Trials, I found myself rooting for Shona more than anyone who\u2019s ever done a trial before her.<\/p>\n

She was fantastic, and it felt like, after fading into the background in early episodes, she finally found her stride and proved herself to be a bit of a hero.<\/p>\n
