Martin Kemp<\/a>\u00a0made a cheeky dig at former\u00a0Spandau Ballet<\/a>\u00a0bandmate Tony Hadley after he was\u00a0axed from I\u2019m A Celebrity<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The singer and actor, 64, appeared on\u00a0Good Morning Britain<\/a>\u00a0today to discuss his exit from the TV show and couldn\u2019t resist making a little quip at Tony\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n

They famously fell out in 2017 after Tony quit the band\u00a0following a period of heightened tension<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hosts\u00a0Charlotte Hawkins<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Adil Ray<\/a>\u00a0asked Martin to talk more about his revelation on the reality programme that he had once auditioned for\u00a0James Bond<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Martin laughed and admitted that it was\u00a0an anecdote he had \u2018dined out on for years\u2019<\/a>\u00a0after 007 producer Barbara Broccoli asked him to come in and read for the part when he was living in LA.<\/p>\n

However, he suggested that now he\u2019d rather play a \u2018James Bond baddie\u2019 \u2013 but when Adil suggested Martin should be the suave spy and his brother and fellow Spandau Ballet star Gary Kemp could be the villain, Martin responded: \u2018Are you coming in as Tony Hadley?\u2019<\/p>\n

He then laughed and said \u2018yeah, you get it\u2019 as Adil suggested himself for the role of Moneypenny.<\/p>\n

Spandau Ballet \u2013 comprised of bass player Martin, vocalist Tony, guitar player and singer Gary, saxophonist Steve Norman and drummer John Keenle \u2013 were at the height of their fame in the 1980s with hits such as True and Gold.<\/p>\n

However, they split in 1990, with Tony, Steve and John later launching legal action against songwriter Gary and his company for a share of Spandau Ballet\u2019s songwriting royalties, which they lost.<\/p>\n

It appeared they could overcome any hard feelings as the group reformed in 2009 for a greatest hits world tour before Tony \u2013 who did I\u2019m A Celebrity in 2015 \u2013 left for good in 2017, quitting the band in favour of solo work.<\/p>\n

In 2021, he claimed his former bandmates\u00a0had \u2018made my life pretty impossible\u2019<\/a>, saying that he \u2018wasn\u2019t going to repeat the usual diatribe but they know why I left the band\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018You don\u2019t just leave a band like Spandau Ballet just because for the fun of it,\u2019 he shared on\u00a0Loose Women<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018It was a very difficult decision, but they made my life pretty impossible.<\/p>\n

\u2018One day I wish they\u2019d be honest and someone had asked them why did Tone leave?\u2019<\/p>\n

Spandau Ballet\u2019s reaction to his leaving suggested it wasn\u2019t the outcome they wanted, with the group\u2019s response to his official exit announcement reading: \u2018Much to our frustration, Tony had made it clear in September 2016 that he didn\u2019t want to work with the band anymore. This has not changed and 2015 was the last time we were able to perform or work with him. So we have now made the decision to move on as a band.\u2019<\/p>\n

They replaced him as frontman with West End actor Ross William Wild \u2013 real name Ross Davidson \u2013 before splitting again in 2019.<\/p>\n

In 2024, Davidson was convicted of one count of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one count of voyeurism at Wood Green Crown Court\u00a0following three women coming forward<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tony maintained to Bad Vibes\u00a0 in 2022 that Spandau Ballet\u2019s feud wasn\u2019t his fault<\/a>, stating that it was \u2018never my intention to leave\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018But there were\u00a0certain actions they took against me\u00a0that just weren\u2019t very pleasant,\u2019 he continued.<\/p>\n

\u2018And it got to the point where I just couldn\u2019t do it anymore. If these are supposed to be my friends, who needs enemies?<\/p>\n

\u2018People need to know it wasn\u2019t my fault. You don\u2019t leave a band like Spandau Ballet because they put sugar in your tea.\u2019<\/p>\n
