The son of\u00a0Lewis Moody<\/a>\u00a0has shared an emotional post after his \u2018hero\u2019 dad was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.<\/p>\n

Former England rugby captain Moody\u00a0tragically revealed earlier in the month that he had been diagnosed with MND<\/a>, the muscle-wasting condition that killed fellow rugby players Rob Burrow and Doddie Weir.<\/p>\n

Moody, 47, only learnt he had the disease in September and admitted he was struggling to come to terms with the heartbreaking news.<\/p>\n

A member of England\u2019s 2003 World Cup-winning team, Moody said the hardest part was breaking the news to his mum and two sons.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s never me that I feel sad for,\u2019 Moody said in an emotional interview with\u00a0BBC Sport<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s the sadness around having to tell my mum \u2013 as an only child \u2013 and the implications that has for her.\u2019<\/p>\n

Recalling the moment he told his sons \u2013 17-year-old Dylan and 15-year-old Ethan \u2013 Moody added: \u2018It was the hardest thing I\u2019ve ever had to do.<\/p>\n

\u2018They are two brilliant boys and that was pretty heartbreaking. We sat on the couch in tears, Ethan and Dylan both wrapped up in each other, then the dog jumped over and started licking the tears off our faces, which was rather sweet.\u2019<\/p>\n

Since going public with the news, Leicester Tigers legend Moody has supported his eldest son Dylan, who plays as a goalkeeper for Southampton and the England U18 football teams.<\/p>\n

Dylan has been busy representing his country at youth level in recent weeks but \u2018took a moment\u2019 to pay tribute to his \u2018hero\u2019 dad in the wake of his MND diagnosis.<\/p>\n

\u2018I just want to take a moment to talk about my dad,\u2019 he posted on\u00a0Instagram<\/a>. \u2018These past weeks have been tough for us all but there has been an insane amount of love sent from all over the world for dad, the strongest man I know!<\/p>\n

\u2018For as long as I can remember he has always, and will always be my hero. Guiding me through challenges I have faced, making me laugh the loudest and smile the widest with the same story\u2019s over and over.<\/p>\n

\u2018But most of all always loving and supporting me though life, and at games near or far.<\/p>\n

\u2018To everyone that knows my dad knows he is the most loving, energetic and caring man that fills rooms with love, and makes everyone smile. always looking out for others before himself, a true gentleman, like his father before him.<\/p>\n

\u2018As many of you know, dad was nick named \u201cmad dog\u201d during his playing career on the pitch and I\u2019m told it\u2019s because of the hunger and the sheer determination to fight for every win no matter the price.<\/p>\n

\u2018And he will, fight.<\/p>\n

\u2018As his next challenge begins against this horrible disease but with the love and support of all our friends and family, and those close to him, he will face it head on with his shoulders back and his chest out high like always.<\/p>\n

Proud dad Lewis responded: \u2018No words bud, just love.<\/p>\n

Moody\u2019s former team-mate and fellow Rugby World Cup winner Will Greenwood led the outpouring of support after the heartbreaking diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Former flanker Moody came through the ranks at Leicester and ended up making well over 200 appearances for the Tigers, winning seven Premiership titles.<\/p>\n

He earned 71 caps for England and won three Six Nations as well as the World Cup in 2003.<\/p>\n

\u2018Lewis is the most wonderful human that we love to his very core,\u2019 Greenwood, who played alongside Moody for both England and Leicester, told\u00a0BBC Radio 5 Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2018It is just tragic news, because he is one of the great guys. And I know there is no order to this stuff \u2013 how you leave this planet \u2013 but you root for the good guys.<\/p>\n

\u2018There is not a nasty bone in his body. He is the most optimistic human you can hope to find, and then he had an ability on the pitch to just turn a switch and be the most ferocious competitor.<\/p>\n

\u2018He will fight this with every ounce of his strength.\u2019<\/p>\n
