BBC<\/a>\u00a0viewers have been left obsessed by a \u2018magnificent\u2019 and \u2018gritty\u2019 new drama from the writer of\u00a0Doctor Who<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Russell T Davies<\/a>\u2019 long-awaited UNIT-based spin-off,\u00a0The War Between the Land and the Sea<\/a>, sees a fearsome and ancient species emerge from the ocean, triggering an international crisis.<\/p>\n

Following \u2018everyman\u2019 Barclay (Russell Tovey<\/a>), his life ordering taxis is turned upside down when he\u2019s forced to become humanity\u2019s spokesperson.<\/p>\n

Featuring two returning Doctor Who legends in Tish and Alonso, the show also features the regular UNIT crew, including\u00a0Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge Stewart<\/a>, Ruth Madley as Shirley, and Alexander Devrient as Ibrahim, who step into action as the land and sea wage war.<\/p>\n

After the first two episodes of the five-part series aired on BBC One last night, fans have praised the \u2018excellent\u2019 drama.<\/p>\n

However, while many Doctor Who fans heaped praise on the series, other viewers were not as impressed.<\/p>\n

\u2018A complete waste of license fee money. I hope the viewing figures reflect this.\u2019<\/p>\n

@FrankSerpi54439 also argued: \u2018War Between the Land and Sea. So far, SO awful. Dreadful directing. Embarrassing.\u2019<\/p>\n
