Have your say on these\u00a0MetroTalk<\/a>\u00a0topics and more in the comments<\/p>\n Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0has descended to new depths in his comments about Somalis.<\/p>\n In words painful even to quote, he said,\u2028\u2018I don\u2019t want them in our country\u2019 and that the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0would \u2018go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage\u2019.<\/p>\n These are openly racist comments \u2013 comments that presumably would lead to a police investigation on the grounds of a hate\u00a0crime<\/a>\u00a0if a person had said them in this country.<\/p>\n And yet only three months ago, when much was already known about how unsavoury he is, Trump was invited for a state visit to Britain. During this, at the expense of us taxpayers, he was treated to a state banquet, a carriage procession and grand pageantry.<\/p>\n This contemptible man now needs to be banned from Britain, as his presence would clearly not be conducive to the public good.\u00a0SM,\u00a0London<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The recently published US National Security Strategy should have leaders in all our parties asking whether we, as a sovereign nation, wish to become a vassal state at the beck and call of the American president.<\/p>\n It is truly Orwellian in its structure, effectively announcing that it is so powerful that it has the right to determine the political complexion of all of its former allies and implying that they should totally align with the objectives of the\u00a0Maga<\/a>\u00a0movement. It is fascism and should be called out for that.<\/p>\n It is time that the remains of\u00a0Nato<\/a>\u00a0reconstituted and considered carefully who should be members and those circumstances under which membership should be automatically annulled.<\/p>\n We need a strong, cohesive and focussed alliance that is not led by a country that would happily force capitulation on a country that has been brutally invaded.<\/p>\n Moreover, we need all our principle defence equipment suppliers to be committed to mutual deterrence and not surrender as soon as\u00a0Russia<\/a>\u00a0dangles a deal that is advantageous to that country!\u00a0Roger Morris, Mitcham<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Trump\u2019s cynical and immoral defence strategy has one aim \u2013 to destroy Europe\u2019s economic independence.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Great Orange Dictator<\/a>\u00a0seems to believe that if he withdraws all military and economic support from Ukraine, European countries (including the UK) will have to fill the gap at immense cost.<\/p>\n In doing so,\u00a0Trump<\/a>\u00a0figures that our economies and societies will collapse. At that point, US vulture capitalists will be free to feed on the carcass.<\/p>\n Trump has made it very clear that democracy and self-determination overseas are of no importance.<\/p>\n Whether particular parcels of the European landmass are controlled by Kyiv, Moscow or a tech trillionaire is irrelevant \u2013 all that matters is whether the US and the Trump family can benefit from its exploitation. For that reason, the US, working in concert with Russia, must now be regarded as an enemy of the UK and the democracies of Europe.<\/p>\n We ignore these realities at our peril. For the first time in 80 years, we face the prospect of war.<\/p>\n Our land and democracy are under threat from the east and our\u00a0economy<\/a>\u00a0faces an equally powerful assault from the west. We urgently need to prepare our defence on both fronts.\u00a0Stephen Spark, Balham<\/strong><\/p>\n Trump may withdraw from the peace process between Russia and Ukraine because Europe and the Ukraine won\u2019t agree to his ludicrous deal.<\/p>\n Good! Europe can work better with Ukraine to create a deal with Russia that doesn\u2019t sell the Ukraine down the Swanee river. The fact is\u00a0Vladimir Putin<\/a>\u00a0doesn\u2019t want peace.<\/p>\n He keeps sabre-rattling by making threats to Nato and European countries that support Ukraine yet, after four years of trying, cannot even subdue Ukraine.<\/p>\n Countries such as Poland and\u00a0Finland<\/a>\u00a0have used this time to strengthen their country\u2019s defences.
