As part of scrapping diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives from\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>, the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0State Department is replacing \u2018informal\u2019 Calibri font with traditional Times New Roman.<\/p>\n

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the \u2018informal\u2019 Calibri font, which was introduced in 2023 in a bid to help make documents more readable for those with\u00a0disabilities<\/a>, would be replaced beginning December 10.<\/p>\n

Rubio, on the other hand, said in a memo that Times New Roman would be reintroduced to \u2018restore decorum and professionalism to the department\u2019s written\u00a0work<\/a>\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Switching to Calibri achieved nothing except the degradation of the department\u2019s official correspondence,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n

The changes are already in effect and apply to both internal and external state department documents.<\/p>\n

The creator of the Calibri typeface, Lucas de Groot,\u00a0told the BBC:\u00a0<\/a>\u2019Calibri was designed to facilitate reading on modern computer screens \u2013 it was chosen to replace TNR \u2013 the typeface that Rubio wants to go back to now.\u2019<\/p>\n

Since retaking office, Trump has labelled DEI programs and initiatives as \u2018discrimination\u2019.<\/p>\n

His orders are eliminating diversity programs in the federal\u00a0government<\/a>\u00a0and have pressured private companies to ditch DEI for merit-based hiring.<\/p>\n

The so-called \u2018war on woke\u2019 has also seen Trump change the name of the\u00a0US Department of Defence to the Department of War.<\/a><\/p>\n

Trump claimed that former President Harry Truman changed the agency\u2019s name to the Department of Defence in 1947 for \u2018political correctness\u2019 and because the nation \u2018decided to go woke\u2019.<\/p>\n

His hatred of \u2018woke\u2019 also prompted Trump to withdraw the US from UNESCO, which he claimed has a \u2018globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy\u2019.<\/p>\n

UNESCO was founded after\u00a0World War II<\/a>\u00a0to promote peace internationally through collaborative efforts in culture, education and science.<\/p>\n

Trump has already pulled the US out of the World Health Organisation and the UN Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n

The US first withdrew from UNESCO in 1983 when then-President Ronald Reagan decided that the agency \u2018has extraneously politicised virtually every subject it deals with\u2019 and \u2018has exhibited hostility toward a free society, especially a free market and a free press, and it has demonstrated unrestrained budgetary expansion\u2019.<\/p>\n
