A man has been charged after a university student was killed and two others were injured in a collision in central\u00a0London<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Christopher Jackson, 27, of Southampton, is accused of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a crash outside the King\u2019s College London (KCL) campus in the Strand on March 18.<\/p>\n

Aalia Mahomed, 20, died at the scene while a man and woman in their 20s were seriously injured and taken to hospital \u2013 but were later discharged.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Metropolitan Police<\/a>\u00a0said officers were called to a\u00a0location close to the university campus at 11.41am following a collision involving a van and pedestrians.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The London Ambulance Service also attended the scene where Ms Mahomed tragically died as a result of her injuries.<\/p>\n

Jackson was charged on December 1 and will appear at Westminster Magistrates\u2019 Court on January 5.<\/p>\n

In a moving tribute, Ms Mahomed\u2019s family said she was a \u2018bright, kind and beautiful soul\u2019.<\/p>\n

During a memorial held earlier this year on what would have been her graduation, Ms Mahomed\u2019s younger brother Zain unveiled a plaque underneath a cherry blossom planted in her name.<\/p>\n

The plaque read: \u2018In loving memory of our forever shining star, Aalia Mohamed.<\/p>\n

\u2018A beloved daughter, sister, philosopher, physicist and friend. November 4, 2004, to March 18, 2025.\u2019<\/p>\n

Zain said his sister was \u2018amazing\u2019 and that she was \u2018really smart, lovely [and] funny\u2019.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Around 40 friends, family members and people from the university gathered to pay tribute to her.<\/p>\n

Ms Mahomed\u2019s mother, Samira Shafi, was given her posthumously-awarded honorary degree certificate.<\/p>\n

The family has launched a campaign to build a high\u00a0school<\/a>\u00a0in Malawi in honour of Ms Mahomed, to be called Be More Aalia.<\/p>\n
