The\u00a0Met Office<\/a>\u00a0has warned households across the UK to prepare \u2018flood kits\u2019 ahead of a weekend of torrential\u00a0rain<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n Weather<\/a>\u00a0warnings predict flooding and heavy\u00a0rain<\/a>\u00a0that could cause travel chaos in parts of the country over the next 48 hours.<\/p>\n Forecasters have warned of potential \u2018threats to life\u2019 from fast-flowing rivers.<\/p>\n Residents in the worst-affected areas should consider using emergency kits \u2013 including bottled water, first aid kits and flood plans, the Met Office said.<\/p>\n The weatheragency warned that flooding and travel disruption are expected on Saturday \u2013 with parts of western\u00a0Scotland<\/a>\u00a0and north-west England due to experience \u2018heavy and persistent rain\u2019.<\/p>\n The washout will likely lead to power cuts, floodwater, and travel delays, the forecaster warned.<\/p>\n Yellow weather warnings are in place for late Saturday afternoon, with more than 100mm of rainfall possible in some areas.<\/p>\n Cumbria<\/a>\u00a0is expected to be the worst-affected, where the Met Office said more than 200mm of rain \u2018could accumulate in places during this 48-hour period\u2019.<\/p>\n Rain is due to develop across western Scotland by late Saturday morning and gusts of 60-70mph are possible along coastal areas.<\/p>\n Weather warnings have also been issued for north\u00a0Wales<\/a>, north-westerly parts of England, western Scotland and\u00a0Northern Ireland<\/a>\u00a0on Sunday.<\/p>\n The Met Office warned of possible threats to life from deep and fast-flowing rivers and \u2018possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses\u2019 following the expected rainfall.<\/p>\n The forecaster said some communities could be cut off by flooded roads.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Outbreaks of rain are also expected to affect Northern Ireland, including the capital Belfast on Sunday.<\/p>\n The Met Office said: \u2018The rain will be heavy and persistent at times with accumulations of 20-30mm expected to develop widely. Over 50mm could accumulate across higher ground.\u2019<\/p>\n The forecaster said rain in Northern Ireland should clear by Monday morning along with the rest of the UK.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Some areas of north-west England will continue to see showers until late Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n Elsewhere, the weekend weather will be notably different. The southern half of the UK will be dry and bright, with much lighter winds.<\/p>\n The Met Office said cloudless skies, patches of frost, mist and fog are expected in the south of England on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n Sunday will remain dry for many throughout the day. There will be more cloud followed by the band of rain slowly moving south-east through Sunday night and Monday.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Met Office chief meteorologist Rebekah Hicks said: \u2018The north west of the UK is set for a very wet weekend.<\/p>\n \u2018We have issued numerous severe weather warnings for rain, and it is possible that these could be upgraded so I\u2019d advise people to keep an eye on the forecast and for Met Office weather warnings.\u2019<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/badvibes.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SEI_277778245-5991-262x300.webp\")
