The\u00a0UK<\/a>\u00a0has its fair share of scenic\u00a0rail<\/a>\u00a0routes, showcasing everything from\u00a0rugged Scottish countryside<\/a>\u00a0to the spectacular\u00a0Cornish coast<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n But did you know there\u2019s a journey where you can see\u00a0polar bears<\/a>\u00a0roaming about and taking a dip?<\/p>\n No, we haven\u2019t lost our marbles. There really are polar bears in the UK, and you can catch a glimpse of three of these formidable creatures behind a train window.<\/p>\n We are talking, of course, about Jimmy\u2019s Farm, a wildlife park near\u00a0Ipswich<\/a>\u00a0that describes its 16-acre (6.5ha) estate as Europe\u2019s largest polar bear enclosure.<\/p>\n To get there, you\u2019ll need to head to\u00a0London<\/a>\u00a0Liverpool Street and hop on a Greater Anglia train heading to\u00a0Norwich<\/a>. Or, if you\u2019re in\u00a0Norfolk<\/a>, do the journey in reverse and take the train to London.<\/p>\n There are several stops along the way, but it\u2019s between Manningtree and Ipswich that you\u2019ll want to keep your eyes peeled.<\/p>\n The enclosure backs onto the main train line, giving passengers a front row seat when the giant carnivores are out and about.<\/p>\n Fares start from \u00a312, and the full journey takes roughly one hour and 50 minutes (although there are also faster 90-minute trains). You can book tickets\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n The farm and wildlife park, operated by TV presenter Jimmy Doherty, started taking in polar bears in 2023 after their long-time home at a zoo in\u00a0Sweden<\/a>\u00a0closed.<\/p>\n Orsa Predator Park shut its doors in 2022, leaving its unsold animals, including a polar bear named Ewa, at risk of being put to sleep.<\/p>\n With alopecia and a broken claw, Ewa was unfit to be released back into the wild. That\u2019s when Jimmy stepped in.<\/p>\n He borrowed money from the bank to build an enclosure with a saltwater dipping pool, along with two lakes, two dens, a large natural woodland area and a state-of-the-art ventilated house.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n When all was ready, Ewa was shipped from Sweden to\u00a0Suffolk<\/a>, and was soon joined by three fellow polar bears: Hope, who had also been at the Orsa Predator Park, and Flocke and Tala, who came from the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and are part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP).<\/p>\n But tragedy struck in September when 11-year-old Hope died after undergoing a dental procedure.<\/p>\n In a statement, Jimmy\u2019s Farm said it was \u2018deeply saddened to announce the loss of Hope, our much-loved bear, who passed away following a vital dental procedure\u2019.<\/p>\n In a\u00a0post on X<\/a>, the park said Hope\u2019s operation was carried out by a \u2018highly experienced\u2019 team of seven veterinary surgeons, two veterinary nurses and members of its animal care staff.<\/p>\n \u2018Despite their best efforts, sadly Hope did not recover,\u2019 it said.<\/p>\n \u2018While the outcome was not what any of us had hoped for, it reflects the reality that, in zoological and conservation work, animals often require complex veterinary interventions to maintain their quality of life.<\/p>\n \u2018Hope\u2019s passing is a profound loss for our park and conservation community.\u2019<\/p>\n The London to Norwich train is used by thousands of commuters every day, so for many, the Polar Bears will be a familiar sight.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/badvibes.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/SEI_262012095-d1d7-300x220.webp\")
