A brand-new\u00a0European<\/a>\u00a0airport is set to open in 2032, and it\u2019s just been given a name: Port Polska.<\/p>\n

The transport hub in Poland is set to attract 40 million passengers annually, with plans for three runways.<\/p>\n

Built between\u00a0Warsaw<\/a>, and the smaller city of \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, this mega-airport could rival the likes of\u00a0Heathrow<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Istanbul<\/a>\u00a0as a gateway to Europe and the rest of the world.<\/p>\n

Such an undertaking comes with a hefty price tag \u2014 authorities have allocated z\u0142131,700,000,000 towards the project, which translates to just over \u00a326 billion.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Poland<\/a>\u00a0already welcomes almost 20million visitors annually, expert Anton Radchenko, from Air Advisor says this huge new airport could be a game-changer for the country.<\/p>\n

Anton tells\u00a0Metro<\/strong>: \u2018If it is built and operated as a true intermodal hub with fast rail links, it will not just bring more visitors to Warsaw, but redistribute demand across the country by enabling travellers to land and reach Krak\u00f3w, Gda\u0144sk, Wroc\u0142aw, or \u0141\u00f3d\u017a quickly without requiring short domestic flights.\u2019<\/p>\n

When will Port Polska open and what will it look like?<\/h2>\n

Construction isn\u2019t expected to begin until 2026, but it\u2019s already had a whopping 2,585 hectares of land approved towards it.<\/p>\n

Upon opening, the airport will have two parallel runways measuring 3,800 metres each in length, flanked by a 2,500-metre-long midfield featuring a passenger terminal and railway station.<\/p>\n
