After raising the bar for\u00a0skilled foreign worker visas<\/a>, the Trump administration is setting its sights on another \u2018problem\u2019 \u2013 obese applicants.<\/p>\n

There are reports that\u00a0U.S.<\/a>\u00a0consulates are being advised to deny visas to applicants who are overweight and unable to cover their medical costs.<\/p>\n

Other conditions listed in the guidance include obesity, high blood pressure,\u00a0diabetes<\/a>, sleep apnea, cancers, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and some neurological disorders.<\/p>\n

The guidance specifies that the rejections will be for those who may be eligible for public benefits, which some argue is a burden on American taxpayers.<\/p>\n

The order reads: \u2018You must consider an applicant\u2019s\u00a0health<\/a>. Certain medical conditions can require hundreds of thousands of dollars\u2019 worth of care.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ironically, the news came on the same day that Trump announced cuts in the cost of weight-loss jabs in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n

Spokesman Tommy Pigott said in a statement: \u2018It\u2019s no secret the Trump administration is putting the interests of the American people first.<\/p>\n

\u2018This includes enforcing policies that ensure our immigration system is not a burden on the American taxpayer.\u2019<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0National Institutes of Health<\/a>, adults with obesity in the US saw annual medical care costs of an additional $2,500.<\/p>\n

Trump is hoping to reduce taxpayer costs to treat those who could seek treatment for obesity through public assistance while on a visa.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the President signed an executive order establishing the \u2018Trump Gold Card\u2019 program, and setting the price tag at a whopping $1million.<\/p>\n

The card can allow wealthy foreigners to buy residency in the US, but those on H1-B visas are worried as visa restrictions become even more strict.<\/p>\n

The controversial programme will affect many\u00a0work<\/a>\u00a0visas, including the popular H1-B visa used by 500,000 people.<\/p>\n

For companies that want to speed up the new visa process for an employee, the cost will be $2million.<\/p>\n
