But while we\u2019re busy unwrapping presents,\u00a0watching festive films<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0tucking into turkey<\/a>, it\u2019s easy to forget why we\u2019re all celebrating in the first place.<\/p>\n

Most of us know that Christmas is actually a religious festival, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. But it\u2019s not always been celebrated in its current form.<\/p>\n

So, who invented Christmas as we know it? Let\u2019s take a look back through history\u2026<\/p>\n

Who \u2018invented\u2019 Christmas?<\/h2>\n

Okay, so Christmas as we know it didn\u2019t come into being the second Jesus was born.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not actually clear that he was even born on December 25.<\/p>\n

The first recorded incidence of Christmas being celebrated dates back to the Roman Empire in 336 AD, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine.<\/p>\n

So technically, the Romans invented it \u2013 although there\u2019s no specific person credited with having done so.<\/p>\n
