David Walliams<\/a>\u00a0has faced a deluge of criticism from fans after the\u00a0BBC\u00a0<\/a>decided to air his controversial Would I Lie To You\u00a0Christmas<\/a>\u00a0special.<\/p>\n

The bestselling children\u2019s author, 54, was\u00a0dropped by HarperCollins last week<\/a>\u00a0after allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards female employees were investigated by the publishing house, which he strongly denies.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson said he had \u2018never been informed of any allegations raised against him\u2019 and was \u2018not party to any investigation or given any opportunity to answer questions\u2019. He is understood to be taking legal advice.<\/p>\n

After the comedian was axed from HarperCollins, the BBC confirmed that the Would I Lie To You festive special featuring him on\u00a0Boxing Day<\/a>\u00a0would go ahead, while adding\u00a0they have \u2018no future projects\u2019 planned with him<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The special itself faced trouble after Walliams was filmed jokingly\u00a0doing Nazi salutes in front of a live audience<\/a>\u00a0at the taping that was eventually cut from the final episode, with the broadcaster issuing an apology.<\/p>\n

Given the hotbed of controversies surrounding this particular Christmas special, fans shared their discontent at seeing Walliams on their screens.<\/p>\n

The BBC also faced criticism for deciding to go ahead with airing the episode.<\/p>\n

Just months before the Little Britain star was dropped by HarperCollins, with whom he had worked since 2008, he had shared concern over certain private messages.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a cybersecurity convention in February,\u00a0Walliams\u00a0admitted he was worried about\u00a0<\/a>his risque\u00a0WhatsApp<\/a>\u00a0messages with friends one day being made public.<\/p>\n

\u2018Imagine if all my WhatsApp messages came out!<\/p>\n

\u2018Not because there\u2019s anything awful on there, but there\u2019s jokes, bad taste jokes, with friends, other comedians, very bad taste comments and jokes, all the time, that you share with each other,\u2019 he joked, according to the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018He added to the audience: \u2018You may notice that the kind of things you share with each other are often in quite poor taste.<\/p>\n

\u2018I can\u2019t imagine it\u2019s just me, right?\u2019<\/p>\n

Walliams\u2019 private remarks have previously been made public.<\/p>\n

In 2022,\u00a0he was forced to leave<\/a>\u00a0Britain\u2019s Got Talent<\/a>\u00a0after leaked recordings of him making sexist remarks towards female contestants.<\/p>\n

He later apologised and reached a settlement with the production company Fremantle following his lawsuit for misuse of private information and breach of data protection laws.<\/p>\n
