2025 was a big year for book-to-movie adaptations, with the likes of Frankenstein, The Housemaid, and The Running Man all receiving high praise after debuting in cinemas.<\/p>\n

The list of\u00a0must-see films of 2026<\/a>\u00a0is already gargantuan, so if you\u2019re someone who prefers to read a book before you watch it\u2026 You\u2019re in for a big year.<\/p>\n

From high-brow literary classics to nostalgic children\u2019s books, there\u2019s a whole range of novels being adapted this year.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a breakdown of some of the books you may want to add to your reading list in 2026 before they hit the screen.<\/p>\n

People We Meet on Vacation<\/h2>\n

Emily Henry\u2019s novel People We Meet on Vacation has been picked up for adaptation by\u00a03000 Pictures and\u00a0Netflix<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 this time with\u00a0Tom Blyth and Emily Bader at the helm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

People We Meet on Vacation was released in 2021 and debuted at number one on The\u00a0New York<\/a>\u00a0Times bestseller list, selling over two million copies in the\u00a0US<\/a>, becoming Henry\u2019s highest-selling book.<\/p>\n

The story follows Poppy and Alex, a pair of best friends who are used to spending every summer together for a fun adventure. After falling out, the pair decide to once again take a trip together, where their friendship is put to the test.<\/p>\n

People We Meet On Vacation debuts on Netflix on January 9.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Emily Bront\u00eb\u2019s revered 1847 gothic novel takes somewhat of an erotic turn in\u00a0Emerald Fennell<\/a>\u2019s controversial adaptation of\u00a0Wuthering Heights<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the most fervently discussed movie of 2026 after fans were stirred up first by\u00a0director Emerald Fennell casting<\/a>\u00a0Margot Robbie\u00a0and Jacob Elordi<\/a>\u00a0in the lead roles, and then by\u00a0the decidedly raunchy first trailer<\/a>\u00a0for Wuthering Heights.<\/p>\n

The trailer was met with shock and labelled \u2018aggressively provocative\u2019 by initial audiences, only adding to the anticipation for some.<\/p>\n

The film focuses on a love story between Cathy Earnshaw and her adopted brother Heathcliff. The story takes place across decades in the Yorkshire moors and explores family ties, mortality, class, and agonising, destructive love.<\/p>\n

Wuthering Heights is in cinemas from February 13.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Magic Faraway Tree\u00a0is a 1943 book from The Faraway Tree series by Enid Blyton.<\/p>\n

The beloved book focuses on a modern family who learn to reconnect after being forced to move to the remote British countryside.<\/p>\n

While in their countryside home, they discover a magical tree that transports them to a spectacular and fantastical lands.<\/p>\n

The film is set to star\u00a0Andrew Garfield<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Claire Foy<\/a>\u00a0as Tim and Polly. The actors are former co-stars who appeared in the 2017 film Breathe.<\/p>\n

Nicola Coughlan, Nonso Anozie, Jessica Gunning, Jennifer Saunders, Hiran Abeysekera, Pippa Bennett-Warner and Rebecca Ferguson also round out the all-star cast.<\/p>\n

The Magic Faraway Tree is set to be released on March 27.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Hot off the heels of Regretting You and It Ends with Us, another\u00a0Colleen Hoover<\/a>\u00a0book is set for an adaptation.<\/p>\n

Hoover\u2019s 2018 book, Verity, is being adapted into a movie by Amazon MGM Studios and will star\u00a0Anne Hathaway<\/a>,\u00a0Dakota Johnson<\/a>, and Josh Hartnett, with Michael Showalter directing.<\/p>\n

The story is a psychological thriller about Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling author who is hired to ghost-write the remaining books in a franchise by Verity Crawford, a writer who is paralysed after a car accident.<\/p>\n

While living in the Crawfords\u2019 home to write the books, Verity uncovers some sinister secrets and her feelings for Verity\u2019s husband, Jeremy, begin to grow.<\/p>\n

Verity is set to be released on October 2.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping<\/h2>\n

Adding yet another film to The Hunger Games franchise,Sunrise on the Reaping, which will follow the 50th Hunger Games, won by Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson in the original series).<\/p>\n

The film has an impressive cast\u00a0including Mckenna Grace<\/a>, Jesse Plemons and\u00a0Ralph Fiennes. Supporting rising stars include Joseph Zada\u00a0as a young Haymitch Abernathy and\u00a0Whitney Peak\u00a0as his love interest, Lenore Dove Baird, during the 50th Hunger Games.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s also been confirmed that\u00a0Jennifer Lawrence<\/a>\u00a0and Josh Hutcherson will also be\u00a0reprising their respective roles<\/a>\u00a0from the original four films, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.<\/p>\n

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is in cinemas from November 20.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Odyssey<\/h2>\n

Sir Christopher Nolan<\/a>\u2019s eagerly anticipated\u00a0next film is The Odyssey<\/a>, an adaptation of Homer\u2019s epic poem across 24 books from over 2,600 years ago, around the 8th century BC.<\/p>\n

The story follows Odysseus\u2019s 10-year journey home after the Trojan War and will have an impressive cast including: Matt Damon,\u00a0Robert Pattinson<\/a>\u00a0as Antinous,\u00a0Zendaya<\/a>,\u00a0Charlize Theron<\/a>,\u00a0Elliot Page<\/a>, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel and\u00a0Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The trailer for the ambitious film \u2013 with a reported budget of $250,000,000 (\u00a3218.6m)\u00a0\u2013 and initial reactions had the film compared to\u00a0\u2018the gladiator but on steroids\u2019.<\/a><\/p>\n
