A small village in\u00a0Norfolk<\/a>\u00a0recorded the coldest temperature in the UK last night after snow and ice blanketed the quiet country lanes.<\/p>\n

Temperatures plummeted to as low as minus 12.5\u00b0C in the UK overnight on Monday, following a day of school closures and travel disruption.<\/p>\n

The lowest temperature was recorded in\u00a0Marham, Norfolk, while Santon Downham in Suffolk, and Topcliffe, North Yorkshire, both saw a low of minus 10\u00b0C, the Met Office said.<\/p>\n

In Scotland, the night was coldest in Dalwhinnie and Tulloch Bridge, where temperatures dropped as low as minus 11.2\u00b0C and minus 10.7\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

But the frigid weather isn\u2019t going anywhere \u2013 large swathes of\u00a0England<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Wales<\/a>\u00a0are expected to be hit with heavy snow this week, brought by the high winds of Storm Goretti.<\/p>\n

A yellow\u00a0weather<\/a>\u00a0warning for snow, expected in a large part of England covering Sheffield, Peterborough, Bath and Worcester, and in much of Wales, will be in place from 6pm on Thursday until midday Friday.<\/p>\n

The severe wintry weather will be brought by the strong winds over northern\u00a0France<\/a>, named Storm Goretti by the country\u2019s forecaster, Meteo France.<\/p>\n

Snow<\/a>\u00a0is likely to develop over higher ground in South Wales late on Thursday, before\u00a0rain<\/a>\u00a0turns to snow more widely across England and Wales overnight, the Met Office said.<\/p>\n

Some areas could see 5-10cm of snow settle, while others could see as much as 20cm.<\/p>\n

Storm Goretti is also expected to bring disruption in south-west England, with a yellow warning for strong winds in place for\u00a0Cornwall<\/a>, Devon and the Isles of Scilly from 3pm on Thursday until just before midnight.<\/p>\n

Snow continued in parts of the UK overnight on Monday, with as much as 36cm recorded in Loch Glascarnoch.<\/p>\n

Overnight, temperatures will once again fall below freezing for much of the country, with the lowest temperatures overlying snow possibly dipping to minus 12C, the Met Office said.<\/p>\n

The Met Office has warned that the heavy snow and freezing temperatures could put rural communities at risk of being cut off, while mobile phone coverage may be impacted by the weather.<\/p>\n

It also warned of travel disruption to road, rail and air as public transport services may be cancelled.<\/p>\n

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended amber cold health alerts for England as an early warning that adverse temperatures are likely to affect health and well-being, running until Sunday.<\/p>\n
