Kate<\/a>\u00a0turns 44 today \u2013 and is expected to mark the occasion with a rather scaled-back celebration.<\/p>\n

The Duchess of\u00a0Cambridge<\/a>\u00a0is a key member of the\u00a0Royal Family<\/a>, a patron of a number of\u00a0charities<\/a>\u00a0and future Queen consort, but she wasn\u2019t born into royalty.<\/p>\n

Here we look at her life in pictures.<\/p>\n

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton was born at the Royal\u00a0Berkshire<\/a>\u00a0Hospital, Reading, on January 9, 1982.<\/p>\n

Kate was christened at the parish church of St Andrew\u2019s, Bradfield in Berkshire, on June 20, 1982 and had a happy home life growing up.<\/p>\n

In the mid-1980s, the Middletons relocated to Amman in Jordan, where Michael worked as a flight dispatcher for\u00a0British Airways<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The country still holds a special significance for Kate, and it was where a picture of the Cambridges, the family used for the 2021 Christmas portrait, was taken.<\/p>\n

At 13, Kate went to the exclusive private Marlborough College in\u00a0Wiltshire<\/a>, where she part-boarded.<\/p>\n

After finishing\u00a0school<\/a>, she went to the University of St Andrews, where she graduated in 2005 with a 2:1 in history of art.<\/p>\n

It was during her studies there that Kate met and began dating William. She is said to have first caught the prince\u2019s attention when she donned a now-famous sheer dress for a university fashion show.<\/p>\n

The couple continued dating after they both graduated, with Kate dubbed \u2018Waity Katie\u2019 for her patience during their long courtship.<\/p>\n

The couple eventually married at Westminster Abbey in 2011.<\/p>\n

During their engagement interview, William described Kate as having \u2018a really naughty sense of humour\u2019.<\/p>\n

The couple have three children together \u2013 eight-year-old Prince George, Princess Charlotte, six, and three-year-old Prince Louis.<\/p>\n

A keen photographer, the duchess usually takes the publicly released photos of her children to mark their birthdays \u2013 though the youngsters are not always so keen.<\/p>\n

She joked: \u2018Everyone\u2019s like, \u201cMummy, please stop taking photographs\u201d.\u2019<\/p>\n

Over the years, Kate remained close to her family and became a key member of the Windsors.<\/p>\n
