\u2018Today the world is richer, safer and much more peaceful than it was just one year ago\u2019.<\/p>\n

Trump<\/a>\u00a0was being sincere when he made this pronouncement at the launch of his absurdly named\u00a0Board of Peace<\/a>\u00a0initiative\u00a0at the World Economic Forum in Davos<\/a>\u00a0yesterday.<\/p>\n

Not for the first time, I was confused by his remarks. I wasn\u2019t sure which world Trump was talking about.<\/p>\n

Sure, the US President lives in a different realm to the rest of us, especially when it comes to facts, statistics and simple truths, but now I\u2019m not sure he\u2019s even in the same universe.<\/p>\n

Now this Board of Peace organisation that Trump has muddled together \u2013 looking for all the world like a Mafia meeting \u2013\u00a0has even extended an invite to President of Russia, Vladimir Putin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The same Putin who has been\u00a0under investigation for war crimes<\/a>, and for whom the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants, as they have for\u00a0Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>, another proud member.<\/p>\n

In response to this invite, Foreign secretary\u00a0Yvette Cooper has declared that the UK will not be joining the Board of Peace<\/a>, citing the Labour Party\u2019s \u2018concerns about President Putin being part of something which is talking about peace\u2019.<\/p>\n

And rightly so.<\/p>\n

But among the flock of leaders on the executive board sits our very own oxymoron regarding peace:\u00a0Sir Tony Blair.<\/a><\/p>\n

If the former Prime Minister had any qualms about joining, they weren\u2019t sufficient enough to keep him away.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blair has been heavily criticised for his support of the US-led 2003 war in Iraq that led to the British Armed Forces participation. A fifth of Brits think\u00a0he should be tried as a war criminal<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 and quite frankly, I\u2019m not surprised.<\/p>\n

Blair joined Bush in invading the Middle East, and that decision led to the deaths of over 4,000 US, 179 UK troops and at least 200,000 Iraqi civilians.<\/p>\n

And over 20 years on, the former Prime Minister clearly has no problem rowing in behind a US Presidency with an eye for war.<\/p>\n

But even Blair\u2019s presence is less of a gut punch than Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s invitation to join the Board of Peace, which he has reportedly accepted.<\/p>\n

The very man who leads what a UN commission considers a genocide has been asked to be part of its peace mission.<\/p>\n

This feels like satire \u2013 but so does everything Trump says.<\/p>\n

When discussing the \u2018peace\u2019 he allegedly created, he continues to state that \u2018a lot of people didn\u2019t know, including me, that those wars were going on\u2019.<\/p>\n

Admitting to being oblivious \u2013 as the President of the US \u2013 to conflicts around the world, is outrageous, and in turn makes us all feel that little bit stupider for watching it.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who also sits on the Board of Peace, has unveiled a\u00a0surreal vision for property and workforce redevelopments<\/a>\u00a0in Gaza \u2013 including coastal\u00a0tourism<\/a>. This feels like yet another Trump family money-maker, and people around the world appear all too eager to join so they can grab their chunk of Palestinian land.<\/p>\n

The President himself has, after all, not been very secretive about his desire to open a luxury seafront redevelopment in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, this group feels like a colonial rebrand.<\/p>\n

Western intervention is, after all, how Palestinians ended up suffering under conditions Amnesty International, other charities, and multiple historians consider apartheid.<\/p>\n

Over a hundred years ago, the area was handed to the British by the League of Nations (established at the end of WWI), to establish a Jewish homeland in the region.<\/p>\n
