The stepson of Duane \u2018Dog the Bounty Hunter<\/a>\u2019 Chapman has been arrested six months after shooting and killing his teenage son.<\/p>\n

Chapman is an American television personality, bounty hunter, and former bail bondsman, who rose to fame starring in his self-titled TV series, which ran from 2004 until 2012. He also later went on to star in other similar series\u2019.<\/p>\n

In July last year news broke that Chapman and his family were facing an \u2018incomprehensible\u2019 tragedy\u00a0after his stepson Gregory Zecca, 38, allegedly shot and killed his 13-year-old son Anthony<\/a>\u00a0in what was described as a \u2018tragic accident\u2019.<\/p>\n

Zecca is the son of\u00a0Chapman\u2019s wife Francie\u00a0<\/a>and her late husband. Soon after the death of his son, the family said that Zecca had been placed on psychiatric hold due to concerns he might take his own life.<\/p>\n

Now, more than six months on, Zecca has been arrested and charged with aggravated manslaughter.<\/p>\n

Police have said that he accidentally shot and killed his teenage son while under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, which happened while the pair were at a\u00a0UFC<\/a>\u00a0watch party at a friend\u2019s apartment in\u00a0Naples<\/a>,\u00a0Florida<\/a>\u00a0on July 19, 2025.<\/p>\n

The New York Post<\/a>\u00a0has reported that officers with the Collier County Sheriff\u2019s Office took Zecca into custody early Tuesday local time after their six-month long investigation revealed he was allegedly drunk and high when he shot his son.<\/p>\n

In a statement, police alleged Zecca was drinking heavily throughout the day and, eventually, ingested marijuana while he and Anthony were watching the UFC fight.<\/p>\n

While they were there, Zecca brandished his firearm near his son several times, including \u2018practicing drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing\u2019 with no magazine in the chamber.<\/p>\n

However, at some point the magazine was inserted back into the chamber. Zecca then \u2018discharged a single shot\u2019 which fatally struck his son.<\/p>\n

When police responded to the shooting, they noted the strong smell of alcohol and saw marijuana laid out \u2018in plain view.\u2019<\/p>\n

They then tested Zecca\u2019s blood alcohol level, which had reached a staggering 0.116 \u2013 which is nearly two times the legal limit in Florida.<\/p>\n

\u2018This case underscores that devastating tragedy that can result from mixing firearms, alcohol and drugs. Our hearts are with everyone affected by this loss,\u2019 Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said.<\/p>\n

\u2018This was a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy\u2019 he continued.<\/p>\n

\u2018Our detectives conducted an exhaustive and thorough investigation, examining every element of what happened through witness statements, forensic testing, subpoenas, search warrants, and more. I commend their hard work and professionalism in uncovering the facts in an incredibly difficult case.\u2019<\/p>\n

Zecca has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence.<\/p>\n

The former could see him face a life prison sentence.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Chapman\u2019s attorney said following the arrest that the incident \u2018remains a devastating family tragedy\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018We believe Greg loved his son deeply, and that this was a tragic accident \u2014 one that has left many lives permanently changed, especially Anthony\u2019s, and Greg\u2019s,\u2019 Joseph Lesniak told\u00a0TMZ<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chapman married Zecca\u2019s mother, Francie Frane, in 2021 soon after they\u2019d each lost their respective partners to\u00a0cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Zecca also joined his stepfather\u2019s bounty team and shared various posts with his son practicing at gun ranges on\u00a0social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the time that Zecca was placed on psychiatric hold, his family said it was due to the fact he was \u2018stricken by grief and not because he feels guilty of a\u00a0crime<\/a>\u00a0in relation to the shooting\u2019.<\/p>\n

Chapman also has 13 other children between six different women, four of whom he was previously married to.<\/p>\n

In September last year his son Garry Chapman, 24, was briefly fired from the police force for his involvement in a high-speed chase that killed a 17-year-old boy in Alabama.<\/p>\n

However, he was reinstated the next month filing a $10million wrongful termination lawsuit against the Priceville Police Department.<\/p>\n
