then have to pay more tax on our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/savings\/\" data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">savings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018You invest your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/12\/07\/still-using-savings-account-opened-16-experts-want-act-now-24799041\/\" data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\">savings<\/a>\u00a0and if they\u2019re not in an Isa you pay tax on the interest or dividend income and then you get taxed again if you sell your investments for more than you bought them.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It\u2019s like the government doesn\u2019t actually want us to be able to keep any of our own money.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a sentiment that will resonate with a lot of people \u2013 especially where they hold savings or investments outside of an Isa of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/pensions-and-investments\/\" data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" In the UK,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/10\/31\/now-time-invest-gold-24517171\/\" data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\">gold<\/a>\u00a0can be held in a way that is not subject to Capital Gains Tax (CGT) if you choose the right format.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I remember reading about when the Labour Chancellor Gordon Brown sold our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/12\/17\/invest-put-money-2025-25412594\/\" data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\">gold<\/a>\u00a0reserves at about $250 per ounce.
