Standing at 15 feet tall, covered in gold and costing $300,000, a large statue of the President could soon be installed at his beloved\u00a0Florida<\/a>\u00a0golf course.<\/p>\n

Dubbed \u2018Don Colossus\u2019, the almost comical rendering of Donald Trump was made by a group of\u00a0cryptocurrency<\/a>\u00a0investors as a \u2018tribute\u2019 to the leader.<\/p>\n

The statue depicts the President pumping his fist in the air, a nod to the famous photo of him taken after his ear was grazed by a bullet during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve also used it to promote a crypto \u2018meme coin\u2019 called $PATRIOT, as a nod to the President\u2019s apparent love for the digital currency.<\/p>\n

A new pedestal at Trump\u2019s golf course in Florida has also been constructed, with rumours that the statue could be unveiled there soon.<\/p>\n

Trump\u00a0messaged one of the statue\u2019s organisers<\/a>, Pastor Mark Burns, in December and said: \u2018It LOOKS FANTASTIC.\u2019<\/p>\n

But the crypto coin, which was promoted by the golden likeness of Trump, lost almost all of its value last year, shortly after it went on the market.<\/p>\n

And the sculptor of the statue, Alan Cottrill, has claimed he\u2019s owed $75,000 for the intellectual property rights to the statue.<\/p>\n

The Trumps have been trying to distance themselves from the actual coin \u2013 though apparently, not the statue.<\/p>\n

Eric Trump, the President\u2019s son, wrote on X: \u2018We appreciate the support and enthusiasm, but we want to be crystal clear \u2014 we are not involved in this coin.\u2019<\/p>\n

But messages sent by statue organiser Pastor Burns found he wrote to his coworkers: \u2018The president just asked me for pictures of his statue in gold leaf.\u2019<\/p>\n

Messages seen by the\u00a0New York Times<\/a>\u00a0also found that\u00a0White House<\/a>\u00a0schedulers are \u2018actively looking\u2019 for a date when Trump can attend his statue\u2019s grand unveiling.<\/p>\n

Trump previously launched a\u00a0cryptocurrency<\/a>\u00a0ahead of his second inauguration, which had an estimated market capitalisation of $6.3billion.<\/p>\n

But it represented a significant shift since Trump\u2019s last presidency, when he said: \u2018I am not a fan of\u00a0Bitcoin and other Cryptocurrencies<\/a>, which are not money, and whose value is highly volatile and based on thin air.\u2019<\/p>\n

In 2021, Trump said\u00a0Bitcoin, the biggest cryptocurrency<\/a>, \u2018just seems like a scam\u2019, adding: \u2018I don\u2019t like it because it\u2019s another currency competing against the dollar.\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
