And so, it\u2019s little wonder the world\u2019s fifth-largest country has now been dubbed 2026\u2019s \u2018Destination of the Year\u2019 by Travel + Leisure.<\/p>\n

Editor-in-Chief Jacqui Gifford said Brazil had been selected because it\u2019s a destination that \u2019embraces roar and spectacle, whether it\u2019s at a soccer match or a Carnival ball\u2019.<\/p>\n

You can lounge on the pristine sands of Itacar\u00e9, party in the streets of Rio, dine out on local cuisine in\u00a0Bel\u00e9m<\/a>, and explore the wonders of the Amazon Basin all in the same trip, provided your annual leave allows it.<\/p>\n

Brazil\u2019s top tier beaches<\/h2>\n

We don\u2019t know about you, but topping up our tan is our first port of call when we jet off on holiday.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re flying into Rio de Janeiro, then you can\u2019t miss the internationally iconic Copacabana beach. You know the one, with powdery white sand, Caipirinha stalls and that famous mosaic pavement.<\/p>\n

The neighbourhood is raucous and bustling with locals and tourists alike, and there are dozens of bars, pubs, and street markets to rest your feet and bask in the glorious chaos.<\/p>\n

Lucky travellers who have got there before us describe the Copacabana as a \u2018must visit\u2019 and \u2018undeniably wonderful\u2019.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, reportedly known as Rio\u2019s \u2018crown jewel\u2019, the Ipanema neighbourhood is home to another famous beach of the same name.<\/p>\n

Immortalised in pop culture by the song \u2018The Girl from Ipanema\u2019, it\u2019s got a breathtaking view of the mountains and sparkling turquoise water.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re heading to S\u00e3o Paulo, you\u2019ll want to stop off at Praia da Fazenda. The two-mile-long deserted beach is bordered by densely forested mountains and palm tree-embroidered islands.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s plenty to do, from surfing to dolphin and whale watching to kayaking. Visitors praise it for its \u2018exceptional landscape\u2019 and peacefulness \u2014 but go prepared because it\u2019s off the main tourist track.<\/p>\n

The greatest show<\/h2>\n

If you travel to Brazil in February, you\u2019ll find yourself in the thick of\u00a0Rio de Janeiro Carnival<\/a>, otherwise known as the greatest show on earth.<\/p>\n

There you\u2019ll be treated to a feast for the senses: a glittering array of samba dancers, thumping, toe-tapping music and eye-popping costumes.<\/p>\n

The Sambadrome is where 12 samba schools from around the city compete in front of judges and spectators with their choreographed dance and specially designed rig outs.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not keen on buying a ticket for the official event, you could attend one of the many \u2018blocos\u2019 or street parties, which rage day and night complete with street food vendors and live bands.<\/p>\n

For something lower key, you could try Parintins Folklore festival. It\u2019s the second-largest festival after Carnival, held in the municipality of Parintins in Amazonas.<\/p>\n

It commemorates the local legend of Boi-Bumba: an ox who was magically resurrected after being slaughtered to satisfy a pregnant woman\u2019s craving for beef tongue. The legend is re-enacted alongside songs and dance routines, and giant floats.<\/p>\n

Surprisingly, you can also celebrate\u00a0Oktoberfest<\/a>\u00a0in Brazil.<\/p>\n

The city of Blumenau in the province of Santa Catarina is the world\u2019s second-largest Oktoberfest after Munich. Expect all the bells and whistles including traditional costumes, German food and plenty of beer.<\/p>\n

Brazil for the foodies<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re looking for a taste of Brazil in S\u00e3o Paulo and you\u2019re not on a budget, you\u2019ll want to check out Tuju.<\/p>\n

The Michelin Guide restaurant sits on a quiet street in Jardim Paulistano, offering a tasting menu filled with seasonal Brazilian produce and flavours.<\/p>\n

One Redditor recommended it for tourists, saying it was \u2018the very best the city has to offer\u2026 honestly a gem\u2019.<\/p>\n

For Brazilian on a budget, then venture to Tordesilhas. Known for celebrating Brazil\u2019s regional cuisines, you can expect dishes like Comiss\u00e3o de Frente (pastries filled with shrimp) and Bolinho Errado com Aioli de Pequi (manioc balls with homemade cheese).<\/p>\n

In Rio de Janeiro you can dine at the highly rated Restaurante Marius Degustare, which is worth a visit for its loud, maximalist and quirky interior. If you\u2019re in Bel\u00e9m, then Restaurante Ver O A\u00e7a\u00ed \u2013 Umarizal is a must-visit. Serving authentic regional cuisine and generous portions, this cozy spot will give you a true taste of Brazil.<\/p>\n
