Sir\u00a0Keir Starmer<\/a>\u00a0has thrown his weight behind calls for Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor to testify about\u00a0Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>\u00a0in front of the\u00a0US<\/a>\u00a0Congress.<\/p>\n

The disgraced former prince has so far ignored interview requests from a US congressional committee looking into the paedophile financier.<\/p>\n

But the Prime Minister told reporters at the G20 summit in\u00a0South Africa<\/a>\u00a0that \u2018anybody who has got relevant information in relation to these kinds of cases should give evidence\u2019.<\/p>\n

When asked if that principle applied to Andrew, Starmer replied: \u2018In the end, that will be a decision for him. But my general position is if you have relevant information you should be prepared to share it.\u2019<\/p>\n

The PM\u2019s comments comes after the former Duke of\u00a0York<\/a>\u00a0did not respond to a summons from the US House oversight committee within the two-week deadline.<\/p>\n

Democratic members of the committee had called on Andrew to \u2018come forward\u2019 about his \u2018ties\u2019 to Epstein.<\/p>\n

The former prince was\u00a0stripped of his titles and evicted\u00a0<\/a>by his brother,\u00a0King Charles<\/a>, amid mounting pressure about his ties with Epstein.<\/p>\n

Andrew\u2019s links to the paedophile financier have been a target of public scrutiny for years, despite him vigorously denying the allegations.<\/p>\n

Virginia Giuffre<\/a>, who died by suicide earlier this year, accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her three times after being trafficked by Epstein as a teenager.<\/p>\n

Suhas Subramanyam, one of the Democrat members of the committee, told LBC this week that the former prince\u2019s name \u2018seems to appear over and over again\u2019 in documents relating to the former pedophile.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u2018It\u2019s clear that he had a close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. We just want to see the truth. If Andrew has information, we want that as well.\u2019<\/p>\n

The congressman responded positively to the prime minister\u2019s intervention at the G20, telling the\u00a0Mail on Sunday<\/a>: \u2018Starmer is right \u2013 Andrew should provide us with any information he has that would help our investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

\u2018There is clear evidence they were friendly.\u00a0This is an opportunity for Andrew to clear his name if he hasn\u2019t done anything wrong, and deliver long-awaited justice to the victims.\u2019<\/p>\n

US lawyer Gloria Allred, who has represented 27 of Epstein\u2019s victims, said: \u2018Why does Andrew resist helping in an investigation which is so important to victims and survivors of Jeffrey Epstein?<\/p>\n

\u2018This is his opportunity to help the survivors by volunteering to speak before Congress under oath. Will he do it or not? King Charles should encourage him to do it, because it is the right thing to do. Andrew\u2019s silence is deafening.\u2019<\/p>\n

The ex-duke\u2019s decision not to respond to the congressional summons this week led to further condemnation from US lawmakers.<\/p>\n

A statement issued by the committee said his decision to stay silent \u2018speaks volumes\u2019.<\/p>\n

It added that there were \u2018serious questions he must answer, yet he continues to hide\u2019, but that the committee\u2019s \u2018work will move forward with or without him\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
