Donald Trump<\/a>\u00a0has slammed Ukraine\u2019s leadership for not thanking him for his efforts to end the war with\u00a0Russia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The US<\/a>\u00a0President has accused\u00a0Ukraine<\/a>\u00a0of having \u2018zero gratitude\u2019 in a post on his Truth Social profile despite talks of a \u2018deal for a lasting peace\u2019 moving closer on Sunday.<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u2018Ukraine \u2018leadership\u2019 has expressed zero gratitude for our efforts, and Europe continues to buy oil from Russia.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I inherited a war that should have never happened, a war that is a loser for everyone, especially the millions of people that have so needlessly died.\u2019<\/p>\n

He repeated his accusation that\u00a0Vladimir Putin<\/a>\u00a0seized his chance to invade as \u2018Sleepy Joe\u2019 Biden was in the White House.<\/p>\n

Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, said in response to the accusation, he was grateful to Donald Trump \u2018personally\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Ukraine is grateful to the United States, to every American heart, and personally to President Trump for the assistance that \u2013 starting with the Javelins \u2013 has been saving Ukrainian lives,\u2019 Zelensky said in a post on X.<\/p>\n

\u2018We thank everyone in Europe, in the G7, and in the G20 who is helping us defend life. It is important to preserve the support.<\/p>\n

\u2018It is important not to forget the main goal \u2013 to stop Russia\u2019s war and prevent it from ever igniting again.\u2019<\/p>\n

It came as a widely leaked 28-point US-backed peace plan that acquiesces to many Russian demands that\u00a0Zelensky<\/a>\u00a0has categorically rejected on dozens of occasions, including giving up large pieces of territory.<\/p>\n

It prompted fears it was entirely drafted by the Kremlin but Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied the accusation saying it took a month of negotiation.<\/p>\n

Rubio described the first session of talks on Sunday as \u2018probably the most productive and meaningful meeting\u2019 since the Trump administration came to power.<\/p>\n

He also said that both delegations would meet again in a second meeting later on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

\u2018This will ultimately have to be signed off by our presidents, although I feel very comfortable about that happening given the progress we\u2019ve made,\u2019 said Mr Rubio.<\/p>\n

Trump says he wants Ukraine to accept the plan by late next week.<\/p>\n

The head of the Ukrainian delegation, presidential chief of staff Andrii Yermak, said good progress was taking place.<\/p>\n

\u2018I want to confirm that we had a very productive first session with the distinguished American delegation. We have made very good progress and are moving forward to a just and lasting peace,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Very soon today the second meeting will take place, where we will continue to work on joint proposals with the engagement of our European partners. Final decisions will be taken by our presidents.\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the war rages on. Deputy Head of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration Taras Pastukh reported that 34 people were killed in a Russian strike with two men, three women and one child still missing.<\/p>\n

\u2018Of them, 33 have already been identified. For one person, forensic experts are still working to establish the identity,\u2019 Pastukh said on Telegram.<\/p>\n

\u2018During the search operations, body fragments belonging to a man were found.<\/p>\n

\u2018Experts are now determining which of the two missing individuals they belong to. Although we cannot rule out that this may be yet another person, because at 8 Stus Street, those killed were not only residents of the building but also people who were passing by on their way to the shelter.<\/p>\n

\u2018We have four people who died at this address but did not live in the building,\u2019 Pastukh said.<\/p>\n

At least 170,000 people have been killed in the Russia\u2013Ukraine war but the real toll could be significantly higher.<\/p>\n

No NATO expansion\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 The plan expects that Russia will not invade neighbouring countries and that NATO will not expand further.<\/p>\n

Ukraine would be constitutionally banned from joining NATO in future\u00a0and will have a 600,000 cap on military personnel.<\/a><\/p>\n

NATO will agree not to station forces in Ukraine<\/strong><\/p>\n

An Economic plan calls for a powerful global package to rebuild Ukraine, including using\u00a0frozen Russian assets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Crimea, Luhansk and Donetsk would be recognised as \u2018de facto\u2019 Russian territory<\/p>\n

Kherson and Zaporizhzhia would be \u2018frozen along the existing lines of conflict\u2019 with plans for a\u00a0demilitarised buffer zone<\/strong>\u00a0in Donetsk.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0humanitarian committee<\/strong>\u00a0would coordinate prisoner and body exchanges, return of hostages (including children), and family reunifications.<\/p>\n

A ceasefire would come into effect immediately\u00a0<\/strong>once both sides withdraw to agreed lines. It would be monitored by a peace council headed by Trump.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
