A star from\u00a0Line of Duty<\/a>\u00a0who\u2019s been tipped by bookmakers to play the next\u00a0James Bond<\/a>\u00a0has already had a 007 moment in his new series.<\/p>\n

Martin Compston<\/a>, 41, who played DI Steve Arnott for nine years in the\u00a0BBC<\/a>\u00a0police thriller series and\u00a0will reprise his role for series 7<\/a>\u00a0next year, has been tipped to take over from\u00a0Daniel Craig<\/a>\u00a0as the secret agent.<\/p>\n

Odds of 50\/1 were placed on the Scottish TV star\u2019s chances as recently as 2021, when No Time to Die \u2013 Craig\u2019s last film as Bond \u2013 had only just been released in cinemas.<\/p>\n

And it appears, if Compston is the man to be given his license to kill, he\u2019s already had the requisite practice, having joined the cast of\u00a0ITV<\/a>\u2019s thriller series Red Eye.<\/p>\n

Red Eye, starring Richard Armitage and Jing Lusi, premiered in 2024 and followed an all-night flight between\u00a0London<\/a>\u00a0and Beijing as a man is extradited to\u00a0China<\/a>\u00a0on suspicion of manslaughter.<\/p>\n

The show was renewed for a second season after being watched 29.3million times on ITVX, with fans given a first look at the series in May.<\/p>\n

ow, Compston has lifted the lid on filming the drama, speaking to\u00a0The Sun<\/a>\u00a0about what it\u2019s been like to join one of ITV\u2019s biggest series of the last few years.<\/p>\n

\u2018I live for [action scenes], getting a bump on the head, getting up and getting on with it. There\u2019s something between action and cut \u2013\u00a0you can completely switch off and believe it in that moment.<\/p>\n

\u2018People probably would look at me in real life and go, \u201cHe\u2019s not ex-SAS\u201d, you know? [But] you can be James Bond, you can be the ultimate spy.\u2019<\/p>\n

No official release date has been confirmed for season two, but viewers have been promised plenty of high-octane action involving Compston very soon.<\/p>\n

An ITV overview says of the series: \u2018Jing Lusi reprises her role as DS Hana Li alongside new guest star, Martin Compston, who together, must set aside past differences to solve a new high-stakes conspiracy.\u2019<\/p>\n

Speaking about joining the show, Martin said: \u2018I\u2019m delighted to be joining the Red Eye team. Hoping to build on the massive success of the first series and give viewers another thrilling ride.\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite being linked with the James Bond role, Compston told\u00a0Metro<\/strong>\u00a0in 2024 that he hadn\u2019t been approached officially yet by the franchise\u2019s producers.<\/p>\n

\u2018No, I\u2019ve never been asked to play James. The closest that I\u2019ve had to it was that I was in a play with Daniel Craig. That is my closest brush with 007.\u2019<\/p>\n

However, Compston did suggest a hotly anticipated name who could step into Bond\u2019s shoes should his phone remain silent on that front.<\/p>\n

\u2018I think that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will make a terrific Bond,\u2019 he said, with the actor having been the firm frontrunner for a while.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s a great actor. I\u2019d love to be a James Bond film, but I think I\u2019m more likely to be a baddie than 007.\u2019<\/p>\n
