White House Press Secretary\u00a0Karoline Leavitt<\/a>\u00a0said she\u2019s developed post traumatic stress disorder while working under\u00a0President Donald Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But the source of her distress isn\u2019t reporters, despite their\u00a0unending barrage of queries<\/a>\u00a0about the day\u2019s headlines. Instead, it\u2019s\u00a0her grueling schedule<\/a>, which has caused her to spend long hours away from her family, she told\u00a0The Daily Mail<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I have PTSD about making plans, so I just don’t,\u201d the 28-year-old griped to the outlet about arranging time off with her husband, 60-year-old real estate developer Nicholas Riccio. \u201cIt’s very difficult to make plans in this job.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband and I had three different mini weekend getaway vacations this summer. All three got canceled due to foreign policy events,\u201d she said, adding, \u201cWe just roll with it. If there’s a night where I happen to become free, then we take full advantage of that as a family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Leavitt, a New Hampshire native and Saint Anselm graduate, has\u00a0rapidly climbed the ranks<\/a>\u00a0in Republican politics. She began her career interning at\u00a0Fox News<\/em>\u00a0in 2016 before serving in the communications office during Trump\u2019s first term. In January, she made history by becoming the youngest-ever White House press secretary.<\/p>\n

In her 10 months on the job, she\u2019s developed a reputation for hosting no nonsense press briefings and demonstrating her fierce loyalty to Trump \u2014 often in the face of difficult questions. In the past week, she was pressed to respond to the president\u2019s statements appearing to call for the death of Democratic lawmakers and his labeling of a female reporter as \u201cPiggy.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019s the fifth person to serve as the Republican president\u2019s top media defender, with most of her predecessors \u2014 including Sean Spicer and Kayleigh McEnany \u2014 lasting in the position less than one year.<\/p>\n

Determined to stick around for longer than her forerunners, she says she begins working before the sun comes up \u2014 and often stops long after it sets, she told the outlet.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn briefing days,\u201d she said, \u201cI come straight to the gym here\u2026Usually, on briefing days, the first one in the West Wing.\u201d<\/p>\n

When not at the press room podium, she said she\u2019s flipping through newspapers, monitoring screens airing cable news and placing calls to Cabinet members \u2014 or Trump himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, being press secretary, especially for President Trump, is a 24\/7 job,\u201d she said. \u201cEven when I’m home, I spend a lot of time on the phone or checking the news.\u201d<\/p>\n

Still, she noted that Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles have pushed her to spend time with her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI leave at a more reasonable hour than people may think,\u201d she said, \u201cBecause that’s sort of the line I’ve drawn to get home and cook dinner and go through the bedtime routine and be a mom.\u201d]<\/p>\n

During an interview with\u00a0Pod Force One<\/em>\u00a0last week, Leavitt also spoke about another source of trauma: the assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania in 2024.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously that\u2019s\u00a0very traumatic for anyone<\/a>, but especially a post-partum mom, you know my emotions were running really high,\u201d she told podcast host and\u00a0New York Post<\/em>\u00a0columnist Miranda Devine.<\/p>\n

In the same interview, Leavitt addressed the\u00a032-year age gap<\/a>\u00a0she has with her husband, Nicholas Riccio, which she admitted was \u201cunusual.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Devine asked her, \u201cCould you not find boys your own age, who are as mature?\u201d the press secretary replied, laughing, \u201cHonestly, no, if you want to know the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is amazing,\u201d she said of Riccio. \u201cHe\u2019s a self-made man, which I respect… He\u2019s built his career, so he\u2019s in a place where he can support me in mine.\u201d<\/p>\n
