Boos and jeers broke out at the Winter Olympics for the ‘first time in 22 years’ as JD Vance and his wife were shown on screen.
The US Vice President and his wife were watching Team USA begin their parade at the opening ceremony in Milan and Cortina.
But as the athletes took to the San Siro stadium waving the American flag, boos echoed around the room as the cameras focused on Vance.
Sports commentator Christine Brennan wrote on X: ‘It’s very rare to hear boos at an Olympic opening ceremony.
‘In my 22 Olympics it probably has happened but I sure don’t remember it.
‘Vice President JD Vance just got booed when he appeared on the big screen. The US athletes, on the other hand, received loud cheers.’
Meanwhile the Ukrainian team heard some of the loudest cheers.

There were also rumours ICE agents will be conducting operations in Italy during the fames.
But these were dispelled by the country’s Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who said the agents will only be involved in analysis and information exchange.
He told the Chamber of Deputies: ‘ICE does not and will never be able to carry out operational police activities on our national territory.’
The US has sent 232 athletes to compete in 16 different sports for this year’s Winter Olympics.
